My tribute to the bull

Flash (18th October 2015) – BullFight

Well… That was a very eventful day out. My brother’s orienteering skills are ..how do I put it?.. Shite hahaha. But it all added to a great day out with some proper laugh out loud moments. Check this out: We parked up at Flash and had a car parked at Roach End so that was the ‘path’ we set out to do.. The first ‘incident’ started in the first field. My bro and I were in front with deb, Jana and the kids following behind. We approached some cows at the far end of the field and to our right a big black bull which had been lying down jumped up with a snort and ran across and in front of us. My bro is like… SHIT!! and starts to run back to the kids as deb has let out a little scream (she is afraid of cows as it is !). So, this bull runs across and stands in front of me and we are doing a ‘good bad and the ugly’ staring contest. I’m thinking, well, I cant run as he is going to run after me, so I performed the ‘withnail and I’ manoeuvre and threw my hands in the air and growled. The bull shrugged off my attack, laughed and just charged at me, head down. My ninja like Jedi reactions kicked in ( you can’t teach this by the way, its just instinct) I held my ground and elbowed the bull in the head. Just got to stay on my feet and keep him in my stare. So, three times I parried his charge with a elbow to the head, and after the third he stopped but still stood his ground. I retreated and the staring contest continued. I made it back to everyone and decided to go a different way. The new way led us to a steep wooded, and rocky ravine which took us a good 40 minutes to climb down (with 3 kids) which gave way to a stream at the bottom which we clambered across and then back up the other side of the ravine. As you can imagine, much laughter was had by all. Jude looked at me in the way down and looked pretty scared. He asked’ does uncle Damian know what he is doing?’ To which I replied ‘of course not’. He answered with ‘do you know what you are doing?’, to which I offered ‘ know what I’m doing? Of course. Know where I’m going? I have no idea’. He looked down at me as I reached up to help him down the rocks ‘Will we make it?’… ‘of course son, it’s just an adventure’. Anyway, after 4 hours we made it. I forgot to mention that just after the matador moment, Damian proceeded to fall off a gate which was bloody hilarious. Later we followed a couple who eventually stopped and said ‘you obviously look like you know where you are going’.. To which I replied ‘nope mate, we were following you’ haha

  1. Fantastic website. Some real IT / web-authoring skills gone into it, and great content too. I anticipate losing a lot of hours to it.

If you go on my site, the links for “SOTA” and “Lockdown” are the main walking resources and blogs.

    Cheers, Tom

    1. Hi Tom. Appreciate the kind words. Just headed over to your site and you’ve been really busy all over the place. Loving your work sir. Let me know if you’re ever playing down this way. Leek has lots of gigs. Cheers Nick
