Hen Cloud – Circular Walk (10th June 2018)

What an excellent run of fantastic weather we are having at the moment in the good old UK. This morning we decided to venture up Hen Cloud at the Roaches for the first time. It’s an easy circular walk that is good for the old glutes and the landscape is truly beautiful. Two miles and only an hour but it’s worth it for the adventure. DiscoDeb and I popped into Millets on route to purchase some lighter footwear (for me), and I bought the Salomon EFFECT GTX which have 25% off at the moment and are very comfortable. Check the photos and route.

Parked up at the front of the Roaches and went through the stile and walked up to the right  of the Roaches, then taking a right through a gate (NB. Please remember to shut the gates behind you as sheep are present).

The top of Hen Cloud. There is a great view of Tittersworth Reservoir from here.

From here, we ventured down a single path that was evident but not over used, and this is where the adventure started.

Walking down the path, which is of a medium gradient (walking sticks do help) led us to this magical area that was covered in fern and was totally unspoiled. We felt like we were the first people here, haha! Absolutely stunning

Here is a little man made camp. The path we came down on joins on to a ‘main’ path which looks as though it carries on down to Roach Hall.

Leaving this wooded area heads out into the open and starts a steeper ascent back up to Hen Cloud (where we started from)

The path you follow up almost seems to walking on top of a fallen stone wall. The footing is very good and indeed very straight.
